Gas Detonation Takes Three Police Officers Amid Property Removal Operation in the Verona Area
Three members of law enforcement perished and at least 15 people sustained injuries in a seemingly intentional detonation from gas at a country home in Italy's north.
How It Happened
The blast occurred as police and firefighters went into the property close to the Verona region to execute an eviction order for a brother and sister trio aged in their 50s and 60s.
Each of the three officers killed served in the Carabinieri force.
Investigation Developments
A man and a woman were taken into custody at the location and a third person who fled after the explosion was located not long after. All three have been admitted to hospital.
The explosion could be noticed as far as 3 miles distant and footage from the location revealed the building reduced to a mass of wreckage.
“This is a time for grieving,” stated the Minister of the Interior the Interior Minister, who mentioned that attempts had been made to evict the brother and sister trio in the past.

“A gas cylinder had been set off, and the explosion immediately struck our officers,” he explained.
Incendiary devices were also located at the property, the interior minister said.
Injuries and Destruction
Those injured by the blast included 11 other members of the Carabinieri as well as a trio of personnel of Italy's state police and a emergency responder.
Based on information from the prosecuting attorney, the farmhouse was in a dilapidated shape and had was without power.
He believed the detonation had taken place on a story above the doorway and told journalists it was a “deliberate and pre-planned murder”. Moments before the incident, he said members had “detected a whistling noise, likely the gas cylinders being opened”.

“We all knew the situation was dire,” nearby inhabitants informed Italian media, mentioning that the family members had previously threatened to “blow themselves up” rather than vacate the property.
“The explosion had left a ‘terrible, very painful and dramatic toll’.”
